Photojournalism - Course Home
Do you have a passion for people? A message you think others need to hear or see? Want to learn to challenge the heart and mind of those who see your pictures? Here's your chance!
This five-day workshop will train you to influence the worldview of those around you as you learn to invest emotional impact, conceptual ideas, and photographic analogies into your images.
You can expect to be challenged to identify the key aspects of an event or issue and to construct a series of photos that accurately tell a story. While some time is spent discussing traditional "objective" photojournalism, much of the course is aimed at a more subjective look at the world around us.
Beginning Sunday evening with an inspirational introduction to documentary photojournalism and ending Friday evening with full coverage of the conference's final session, the class will dive deep into this aspect of photojournalism.
This is a fast-paced, completely digital workshop, with slideshows of images taken by the class being played for the conference attendees every evening. Instructor Will Thornton will combine tried-and-true techniques with brand new insights into a powerful communication method we haven't found anywhere else.
Daily photo essays, combined with over 35 hours of instruction and image review sessions, ensure that students will receive an in-depth look at photojournalism and event photography.
As an additional benefit, students will retain copyright of the images they capture during the week of training, with select images being listed for sale in an upcoming IPS stock image catalog.
